Research Interests
Dr. Kooser has worked on coastal
zone management issues since 1990. In her role as
manager of the SF Bay NERR, she brings together her
state agency experience in science, policy and management,
along with her academic background as a former professor
of geography at the University of Washington and at
The Evergreen State College. Her state agency experience
includes serving as Deputy Director for Energy, Ocean
Resources and Water Quality at the California Coastal
Commission, and wetlands policy and water quality
regulation work at the Washington Department of Ecology.
Jaime’s
current focus is on developing programs that use the
strength of the National Estuarine Research Reserve
System. San Francisco Bay NERR is one in a network
of 27 reserves established for long-term research,
education and stewardship of the nation's estuaries.
Programs will promote conservation of the unique resources
of SF Bay, through a focus on bringing science to
coastal-decision-making and community stewardship.
Jaime has a passion for healing the earth and the
relationship of people to the earth. She recharges
her spirit by bird watching and continuing her broader
interest in geography, including the study of vernacular
architecture.
