The Barbara and Richard Rosenberg Institute for Marine Biology & Environmental Science
The Barbara and Richard Rosenberg Institute for Marine Biology and Environmental Science showcases RTC's extraordinary research potential and commitment to public engagement on the health of San Francisco Bay and broader issues such as global climate and habitat change. The Institute sponsors three programs free to the public:
• The Rosenberg Institute Seminar Series - Seminars take place in spring and fall semesters, and bring together the academic community and the public at large by engaging some of the best researchers and scholars in the fields of marine biology, environmental science and related disciplines. Students benefit from attending these lectures as well as presenting their own research on marine biology and the challenges facing SF Bay and the world ocean to scientific and public audiences. Our Fall Seminar Series begins September 4, 2013.
• The Rosenberg Institute Public Forums - Two major public forums on marine biology and related disciplines are held each year, one in the fall and one in the spring each year; beginning with the inaugural lecture in the spring of 2014. These forums feature nationally renowned experts on the environment, marine biology and related fields. The Rosenberg Institute Public Forums are designed to increase the public's awareness and understanding of marine and environmental issues and solutions. The Public Forum Series provides the opportunity and structure for the public to engage with nationally renowned scholars to deepen their understanding and awareness of environmental issues and solutions.
• The Rosenberg Institute's Discovery Day at the Romberg Tiburon Center - For almost a quarter of a century, Discovery Day (RTC's annual open house) has been a community and family tradition. The free event is open to the public, who are invited to spend the day at Center, meet RTC scientists and students and learn about their research in San Francisco Bay and beyond. Visitors of all ages have the opportunity for "hands-on" interactions with live marine organisms, to listen to underwater sounds off RTC's seawall and to engage in art activities. Join us October 13 for the 2013 Rosenberg Institute Discovery Day Open House.
