April 3, 2008 marked the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies' 30th Anniversary as San Francisco State University’s marine and estuarine research facility. Since 1978 we have been serving students and the local SF Bay community through research, education and outreach.
2008 also has special significance because it marks the beginning of a new era for the Center. We are re evaluating our role in the local and scientific communities, and are restructuring our campus to better serve our students and neighbors. We encourage participation; if you are interested in our master planning process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
For those of you who are new to RTC, the Center is the marine and estuarine research facility for San
Francisco State University. We are located on the Tiburon
Peninsula on a site with a long
history of marine activity. RTC
faculty, working together with students and staff members, conduct
focused scientific research that
addresses societal needs. Our research programs are structured
to maximize the active participation of both SFSU undergraduate
and graduate students. Our faculty, spanning two colleges
and four academic departments (Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry,
Geography and Human Environmental Studies, and Geosciences),
create a strong interdisciplinary environment dedicated
to training the next generation of scientists and citizens.
In addition to
our research and educational roles, RTC is an active member
of the community. We share the Center's resources with SFSU
faculty and students from a wide range of academic disciplines,
and provide educational outreach
to citizens from "K to gray."
Please explore RTC through this website.
In addition, I encourage you to discover RTC for yourself
next October when we host Discovery
Day, our annual open house. At Discovery Day we invite
the community to experience our campus and learn about the
work conducted by faculty, staff and students. Or visit
us to attend one of our research seminars.
I hope you will become as excited about RTC as we are. |
